Making Ground / Farming Water: In response to the rising water levels of San Francisco Bay, TLS proposes to dramatically alter the topography of low-lying urban edges such as the Corte Madera Creek waterfront. Incrementally demolishing the many tilt up structures soon to be inundated, and dredging deeper tidal channels, the material is produced to create a series of large island mounds, in the same manner as their historic predecessor, Native American shell mounds. These new islands are accessible by a new urban fleet of boats and ferries as well as floating bridges. They are home to the increased development needed in the future – parks, neighborhoods, offices, farms, campuses. Other newly inundated zones will provide areas for salt water farming of shellfish and biofuels.
