Shanghai Sanlin Valley Park-Landscape Design of an Urban Green Wedge

With rapid urbanization Shanghai quickly grew into a city with the world’s second largest population density. This urban density, and Shanghai’s underlying geography have caused heat levels to rise and remain trapped in the city. It is predicted that in the year 2050, annual heat stress days are likely to be double that of the year 2015. In 2001, Shanghai’s government endorsed 8 “green urban space” projects that will fulfill the objectives of serving as a ventilation corridor and a green lung of the city.   Sanlin Valley Park is the only public green space situated on the banks of the Huangpu River. Located in the southern region of Shanghai with a size of 240 hectares this is one eight green wedges defined by Shanghai’s urban planning. TLS + SOM announced winners of urban design for boot area of the Xiong’an New Area in China

The administrative Committee of the Xiong'an New Area announced TLS along with SOM as winners of an international competition yesterday to design boot area of the new innovation city for China-Xiong'an. The team presented their design proposal to the Committee along with other 2 shortlisted teams earlier this year. The new city is intended to become the technological, research, and commercial capital of the country. The masterplan enters into a comprehensive optimization phase for which the team is currently in Beijing for in-depth design workshop with international and local expertise. The team was earlier selected as one of the 12 design teams last year from 213 entries after President Xi Jinping's announced to develop a new city in the Hebei province to move"non-core" functions of the Chinese capital in April 2017. KQED echoes Common Ground’s vision for North Bay’s Highway 37: It is Going to Be a Serious Climate Mess

The proposal looks at a resilient future for flood-threatened and congested State Route 37 connecting the northern edge of San Francisco Bay as well as adjacent tidal complexes and restored marshes. The result would be a new Ecological Central Park larger than San Francisco.The Project now is preparing to move ahead and scoping the next steps with support form regional government agencies...

Hall’s Island wins Community Impact Award at ReScape

The 330acre restoration project at Halls Island which was part of Minneapolis RIVERFIRST program won the Community Impact Award at Minnesota Brownfields ReScape Awards last week.   Minnesota Brownfields celebrates projects which demonstrate innovation, collaboration, and exemplary results in revitalizing formerly contaminated land. Hall’s Island was a finalist for 2 awards, Community Impact Award as well as Environmental Impact Award.   Watch the restoration video here....

TLS +SOM selected as 1 of the 12 teams to submit proposals to design China’s new administrative capital in Xiong’an

TLS teamed up with SOM to present its design proposal for the boot area in China's new administrative capital in Xiong'an. The team was selected as one of the 12 design teams earlier this year after President Xi Jinping's announced to develop a new city in the Hebei province to move non-capital functions away from Beijing in April 2017. The vision and masterplan document was released at the same time and states "The establishment of Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province is a significant decision and arrangement by the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core to push forward the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei," .   All 12 teams present their proposal to the jury this week.  ...

Common Ground’s Vision presented to Governor Brown as part of successful projects from RBD challenge

Gov. Jerry Brown convened leaders from around the world in San Francisco for the Global Climate Action Summit held from September 12-14 2018.  Bay Area Council members were major supporters and participants in the historic gathering. Bay Area Council's  work with the Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge also was featured at the Summit and highlighted some of the innovative projects ; including Common Ground's Grand Bayway;  being developed to increase the region’s resilience to rising seas. TLS team “Common Ground” reveals The Grand Bayway for Resilient by Design Challenge

The proposal looks at a resilient future for flood-threatened and congested State Route 37 connecting the northern edge of San Francisco Bay as well as adjacent tidal complexes and restored marshes. The result would be a new Ecological Central Park larger than San Francisco.   "This smart project is a good example of an ambitious but a fundamental initiative.
