TLS + SOM announced winners of urban design for boot area of the Xiong’an New Area in China

The administrative Committee of the Xiong’an New Area announced TLS along with SOM as winners of an international competition yesterday to design boot area of the new innovation city for China-Xiong’an. The team presented their design proposal to the Committee along with other 2 shortlisted teams earlier this year. The new city is intended to become the technological, research, and commercial capital of the country. The masterplan enters into a comprehensive optimization phase for which the team is currently in Beijing for in-depth design workshop with international and local expertise.

The team was earlier selected as one of the 12 design teams last year from 213 entries after President Xi Jinping’s announced to develop a new city in the Hebei province to move”non-core” functions of the Chinese capital in April 2017. The vision and masterplan document was released at the same time and states “The establishment of Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province is a significant decision and arrangement by the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core to push forward the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei,” .
